Can I stay with my pet during grooming?

Based on information from grooming businesses in our directory, policies regarding owner presence during grooming vary widely. Many establishments have found that pets often behave differently (and sometimes better) when owners aren't present, as separation anxiety can be compounded when an owner is visible but not accessible. Safety concerns are another consideration, as grooming equipment can be dangerous in an unfamiliar environment. For these reasons, a number of grooming salons don't allow owners to remain during the service. However, some facilities - particularly mobile groomers who work in your home - are more flexible about owner presence. Other groomers offer alternatives like viewing windows or partial observation options. We've found that many establishments are willing to accommodate nervous first-time clients with brief check-ins or modified policies. We recommend contacting specific groomers directly to inquire about their policies, explaining any special circumstances or concerns you might have, and perhaps starting with a shorter introductory session before a full grooming appointment.
