Do groomers need proof of vaccinations?

Based on feedback from grooming businesses in our network, most professional groomers do require proof of current vaccinations for the safety of all animals in their care. For dogs, rabies vaccination is almost universally required, while many facilities also ask for proof of distemper/parvo (DHPP) and Bordetella (kennel cough) vaccines. For cats, rabies and FVRCP (feline viral rhinotracheitis, calicivirus, and panleukopenia) are typically requested. Vaccination requirements are designed to protect not only your pet but all animals that visit the grooming facility. Most groomers request vaccination records be provided before or at the time of the first appointment. Some facilities may accept titers testing as an alternative in certain cases. Special accommodations might be possible for pets with medical exemptions from vaccines, though this often requires a signed letter from a veterinarian. We recommend contacting specific groomers directly to understand their exact vaccination policies, as requirements can vary between businesses and sometimes by local regulations.
